A visit to the Residents’ Open Day
We were delighted to attend the recent Residents’ Open Day at Wild Ken Hill, just a short distance from The Old Station in Snettisham. It was a fantastic opportunity to hear about the inspiring work happening right on our doorstep—from regenerative farming and rewilding to large-scale conservation.
Wild Ken Hill is a pioneer in restoring nature while continuing to farm the land, blending traditional methods with a forward-thinking vision for biodiversity and sustainability. During the open day, we joined local residents to hear an engaging presentation on the estate’s latest progress—covering everything from soil regeneration and carbon capture to species recovery and habitat restoration.
A Walk on the Wild Side
One of the most memorable parts of the day was exploring the beaver enclosure, where wild beavers are helping to shape and restore the landscape. This natural engineering is already transforming the area—slowing water flow, creating wetlands, and supporting countless other species. Along the way, we saw butterflies dancing across wildflower meadows, buzzing insects, and birds of all kinds—it was truly alive with summer activity.
Tracing the Railway Line
We’ve always known the old railway line once ran through this area, but it was a real treat to see the route in person. The track ran towards King’s Lynn, passing directly by our station at Snettisham, and it was fascinating to trace the path leading in the other direction toward Heacham. Standing in such a beautifully rewilded landscape while reflecting on the region’s rail heritage added an extra layer of meaning to our visit.
A Shared Commitment to Sustainability
As proud caretakers of The Old Station, we were inspired by how Wild Ken Hill is putting nature, climate, and community at the heart of land management. We share that commitment, and it was energising to see how much can be achieved through collaboration, care, and a long-term vision.
