Although The Old Station retains many of the original features, we are keen to restore and return as many of its other features as is practical. It certainly is a proving a challenging but enjoyable journey. Some of our progress is illustrated below:
Original GER (Great Eastern Railway) Fireplace
This GER fireplace was installed where the original fireplace would have been in the ticket office/waiting room, now the lounge. This fireplace is said to have originated from Soham
Veranda Updates
Along with other vintage memorablia, we have displayed on the veranda a copy of the vintage Bavarian railway poster mentioned by Sir John Betjeman during this visit here.

Running In Board
Whilst we still have the original sign on the down platform, we are delighted to have just acquired this sign which was originally on the station house wall next to the up platform
Station Lantern
A level crossing gate lantern has been sourced to welcome you as you arrive This is powered by a solar panel (part of our sustainability programme)
These original tokens were brought back home following a recent trip to Bridport
Luggage Label Cabinet
Rescued from the garage, the original luggage label cabinet returned to station office (some restoration required)
The Platform
Snettisham (the middle ‘i’ is silent)…., its got all the little characteristics that I like about a country station,……. full of quirky touches such as a topiary hedge spelling out its name, and the ironwork of the bench incorporating the initials of the Great Eastern Railway company.

Martin has cut the hedge down – any topiary volunteers to cut the name into the hedge? GER bench ends purchased, wooden slats to be added, totem and lamp need to be acquired and added to the platform
